Need to get somewhere quickly, safely and economically? Until recently, you would call a taxi. These days, you call Uber. The same forward-thinking efficiency Uber is using to revolutionize the travel industry is being employed by ClinCapture to the clinical trial industry.

ClinCapture provides free, validated electronic data capture (EDC) software to CROs, pharmaceutical and medical device companies. It streamlines the process for capturing data and expands the boundaries of how it can be used. Following is an overview of some of its most popular features.

Data Control: ClinCapture offers a cloud-based solution, which allows users to keep control of and have access to data at any time, from any place.

Customized Solutions: Via its CRF Builder ‘Forms Studio’, a user can create and manage simple or complex case report forms (CRFs). When building a new CRF, there’s no need to start from scratch. From the “Forms Library”, you can elect to re-use an entire report, a few pages of it, or even a single item within it. This cuts down immensely on the amount of time required for the building process.

Do-It-Yourself Solution: Build Studio is ClinCapture’s self-service portal. This allows users to create and manage a full-blown clinical study. It’s one of the most highly touted features of the technology. A CTO at a technology research organization explained why, stating: The self-service portal sets ClinCapture apart from other EDCs. Efficiency is essential in this industry, and having everything you need to build CRFs at your fingertips is exceptional. ClinCapture is also the only open source EDC with an integrated, intuitive randomization function and is one of the only WHO drug certified EDCs.

Simplified Technology: Although the solutions ClinCapture offers are highly technical and complex, you don’t need this level of technological skill to use it. If you know how to use simple drag-and-drop tools, you can get a site set up and start entering data very quickly.

The interface offers great flexibility, and the drag-and-drop eCRF and edit-check builders are instinctual and easy to use.

Validated Data: ClinCapture allows users to integrate its ePRO system into their current EDC system so that patient-entered data can be integrated directly into case report forms. This not only cuts down on mistakes from having to re-enter data a second time into another system, it saves valuable time.

Patient Follow-Up: ClinCapture has an in-built patient follow-up system. For example, if a patient doesn’t fill out a diary, an automated email is sent to remind them to do so.

Also, once a subject has been issued a treatment, a follow-up can automatically be scheduled. As the date approaches, a series of reminder emails can be scheduled to go out so that no events are missed. This helps keep studies and trials on schedule.

Medical Coding: Coding can be specific to either an administrative user or a coding user. This allows you to restrict who can code or approve/adjudicate previously coded medical terms. You decide this when you activate coding on your site.

It’s worth noting that ClinCapture is the first, open-source EDC system to receive the WHO Drug Dictionaries Medical Coding Certification by the Uppsala Monitoring Center (UMC).

Support & Training: The support and training is second to none. Response times via phone or email are extremely quick and reactive, and useful resources are in plentiful supply.

Also, as a cloud-based, open source platform, users of ClinCapture can offer their ideas, suggestions and feature requests, which are often built into future versions.

Uber describes itself as a company that’s finding better ways for cities to “move, work, and thrive.” As these features highly, via its innovative technology, ClinCapture applies that same philosophy to the clinical trial industry.

Choosing the Right EDC System for Pilot/FIH Medical Device Studies

The benefits of using EDC systems, as opposed to paper, in a clinical trial can be significant for medical device studies. For example, EDC system for medical device studies can help streamline data collection processes by omitting the need for monitors to visit sites for Case Report Forms (CRFs) verification, eliminate redundant double (or triple) data entries, red Read more +
